30 years and counting…

What does a former Bond girl, mother of two and diabetic have in common? Her secret weapon to slow the hands of time whilst keeping fit and healthy – the keto diet. Hollywood superstar and wellness advocate, Halle Berry is set to celebrate her 55th birthday in August but the question on everyone’s mind is ‘how does she look like she did 30 years ago?’.

Diagnosed with diabetes at just 22, Berry is no stranger to the keto diet. She discovered the diet over 30 years ago whilst looking for remedies to help manage her sugar levels. Making such a dramatic change when very little was known about the diet was not easy, but she believed in the science and embraced a lifestyle regime that could compete with top athletes.

Fast forward three decades, the star who is set to celebrate her 55th birthday in August doesn’t look a day over 30! She credits this achievement to keto and how the discovery directed her towards her health journey. “Because I’m diabetic, nutrition has been a big part of my life,” Berry said to Insider Magazine.

Staying in great shape and eating habits have always been a focal point in Berry’s lifestyle. In 2018, she shared an Instagram post about being healthy and staying in great shape

“Keto is a very low-carb food plan which actually forces your body to burn fat like crazy. I also believe it’s been largely responsible for slowing down my aging process. The keto lifestyle offers so many benefits such as weight loss, (moms that’s how we get rid of our baby bellies), appetite control, more energy and better mental performance,” Berry said on her Instagram account. “If you’re like me, you can possibly reverse type 2 diabetes, you’ll experience better physical endurance, better skin and also less acne if that’s an issue. And it even helps control migraines!”

She also talks about how sugar is like poison for your system and your skin and how avoiding it helps as a natural anti-aging secret. “I use Xylitol as a sugar substitute and give it to my daughter… I strongly believe in talking about nutrition at an early age and setting a good example” Berry stated in Marie Claire UK.

Nutrition wasn’t the only lifestyle change in Berry’s life. Pairing a comprehensive fitness and wellness routine alongside the keto diet has resulted in ‘slowing down her ageing process’.
